In February 2020, I finally managed to travel to Venice to photograph the start of Carnival. The Corona pandemic was already casting its dark shadows and Venice was unusually empty. So I was able to explore the city at my leisure. And I was lucky enough to experience the opening of the carnival with all the imaginative masks and was able to fly home just in time before the lockdown. A short time later, the carnival was prematurely cancelled.
