Egypt is a special destination in every respect. It starts with the history of a high civilisation at a time when the majority of Europeans were still far behind in their social and cultural development. Already as a child, I, like many others, heard the captivating stories of the god-like pharaohs and their temples and pyramids.

At some point in your life, you should give in to the desire and see these things with your own eyes. I was in Egypt in 2014 for the second and definitely not the last time. A river cruise on the Nile took me to the sites that had already captured my childhood imagination. And it was great.

But there was so much more to discover. A country shaped by the one river, the desert and the two seas, much of it covered in sand. An exciting Egyptian culture and many great people.
