Leipzig Skyline

What is “Heimat” (home)? I grew up in Leipzig, spent my childhood in this city and studied at the university here. Then I moved to Berlin, where I have now lived longer than I lived in Leipzig before. And yet Leipzig is still my hometown. It’s a great city: cosmopolitan, culturally rich, intelligent, self-confident. It is an old mercantile city that has experienced ups and downs. It is a university city whose institutes, lecture halls and seminar buildings are spread out in the middle of the city centre and are an integral part of it. Art and culture play a significant role.

The high-rise building shown in the photo used to belong to the university. I spent a lot of time on the 22nd floor during my studies.
